These two took the ultimate plunge and trusted 9 photographers with capturing their SURPRISE ceremony!  Yeah, you totally read that right - @sofia_katherine fibbed and said it was a fake ceremony, but it turned out to be 100% real - and we found out about .2 seconds before we started shooting 😂 Ang and Ander tied the knot while 9 different photographers practicing flash work quietly rotated out and photographed their real wedding ceremony!

I had the pleasure of delivering a few albums for previous wedding couples over the last week! I’m so grateful to those that value bringing their memories from hard drives into something tangible that they can display in their homes. It makes my heart so, so happy 🖤

Very excited to be diving into wedding season with my girl @carissamariephotography_ today! We’ve got a long day ahead of us but I’m so excited. Weddings truly just make me so happy. I love being a little voyeur into someone’s most special day, and being able to show how I see it and give them so many amazing memories to look back on. It can be a weird and vulnerable thing to be a stranger on the outside looking in, but that’s where the strength and beauty of wedding photography lies, too.

THE GARDENS | part one

I have so much love for this whole day that I feel like I need to share it in parts here because there’s simply too many photos that I couldn’t pick!

Natasha and Shawn’s garden-inspired wedding began with getting ready and spending time with friends. Natasha created a very special moment with her mother by opting to have a first look with her, and taking time to read a special letter she had written. Shawn got ready nearby, taking some time to finish writing out his vows.

I loved how intentional Natasha and Shawn were about choosing their details. They included so many things that were important to them, and so many ways to honour Natasha’s late father. She had a collection of his cufflinks for Shawn to choose from, butterflies scattered throughout from her veil to the reception decor, along with an anklet that she had custom made that was inscribed with her dad’s writing.

The two met for their first look and to exchange their wedding gifts in person. Natasha, ever the epic gift giver, gifted her soon-to-be-husband and replica sword from one of Shawn’s favourite video game franchises, Final Fantasy (which they used to cut their cake later in the evening!)
 After a few minutes of some portraits, they headed off to spend some time together with their wedding party before the ceremony and we went down to the ceremony site to get ready. During their engagement session, Natasha gave Shaw

During their engagement session, Natasha gave Shawn a very special pre-wedding gift and wrote him a beautiful note (on the most hilarious card I’ve ever seen). I loved being able to spend time with these two and get to know them more before the wedding, even though it felt like we had known each other forever!

I remember having the most brutal fire smoke roll in immediately after their session and feeling so grateful we had planned it for when we did! It was a cool, cloudy evening and we had the St. Albert Botanic Park all to ourselves! Wandering around and exploring the garden with these two was the perfect lead in to their Garden party of a wedding later that summer (coming soon!!)

I don’t even know where to begin talking about h

I don’t even know where to begin talking about how much this past weekend at the Illuminate workshop meant to me. I feel like I’ve been stuck in a state of limbo recently. Not sure what to do or where to go, so then I end up paralyzed and doing nothing haha. But this weekend felt like such a big physical and emotion reset for me that I desperately needed.

@sofia_katherine, thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting this together. I am so grateful for you. Words cannot express how proud I am of you for stepping into this teacher role and doing it so well - so genuinely, so enthusiastically, so free of judgement, and so ready to support anyone and everyone. When I say this is the best workshop I’ve ever been to, I mean it with my whole heart. I can’t wait to put into practice things I learned this weekend, and I can’t wait to attend another Illuminate workshop!

@saprasil @mandarineclarke @jess.blackstock - thank you so much for your hard work feeding us all this weekend. Eating out and travelling with severe allergies can be really hard, let alone doing it in a place that’s like 40+ minutes from the nearest hospital and no cell service haha. You have no idea how much a completely nut and fish free menu for the entire weekend meant, let alone a menu as detailed and delicious as the one you created for us, and your hard work does not go unnoticed. Everything was INCREDIBLE.

To all of the vendors and models, thank you for putting in so much work and long hours to make this happen for us. You are awe inspiring. WE APPRECIATE YOU!

To all of the other attendees, thank you so much for showing up. Meeting new people and seeing everyone’s work is really just so inspiring.

Feeling so much love and light from a weekend spent in the dark. 🖤
